TUESDAY MARCH 14, 2017  5:55 A.M.

Snow is falling throughout the area early on this Tuesday morning and temperatures range from the mid 20s in the Clifton area to around 20 further inland, winds are gusty out of the northeast, about 3 inches of snow has accumulated so far.

The strong low pressure system will be moving up the coast and be near Eastern Long Island this afternoon, heavy snow and wind with blizzard conditions will continue until the middle of the afternoon and then taper off late this afternoon, total accumulations of 16-24 inches are likely, accumulations will be less just south and east of the area as some sleet will mix with the snow that will hold accumulations down in that area.  Winds will gust to 40 mph causing considerable blowing and drifting snow.

Scattered snow showers on Wednesday along with very cold temperatures.

The unseasonably cold weather will continue the rest of the week into the weekend and a weak low pressure will give us a chance of light snow or rain on Saturday.

 

THE FORECAST:

TODAY – MAR 14 – Blizzard warning in effect! Snow, heavy at times, winds to 40 mph will cause considerable blowing and drifting of the snow, high in the low 30s, accumulations 16-24 inches.

TONIGHT – Mostly cloudy with a chance of snow showers, low in the upper teens.

WEDNESDAY – MAR 15 – Mostly cloudy with a chance of snow showers mainly in the afternoon, high near 30.

THURSDAY – MAR 16 – Mostly sunny, high in the mid 30s.

FRIDAY – MAR 17 – Mostly sunny, high near 40.

SATURDAY – MAR 18 – Mostly cloudy with a chance of snow in the morning and a chance of rain in the afternoon, high in the low 40s.

SUNDAY – MAR 19 – Partly sunny, high near 40.

MONDAY – MAR 20 – Mostly sunny, high in the low 40s.

 

MARINE FORECAST:  Storm warning in effect till 1 p.m. this afternoon for northeast winds gusting to 55 knots, seas 12-17 feet.

OUTLOOK – Small craft conditions expected to continue Wednesday and Thursday with no advisories expected for Friday and Saturday.
