Good viewing weather for the solar eclipse! Hot and humid on Tuesday! Much cooler and comfortable Thursday through the weekend!


MONDAY  AUGUST 21, 2017  5:50 A.M.

Our area has mostly clear skies early on this Monday morning and temperatures range from the upper 60s in the Clifton area down to the upper 50s further inland, winds are mainly calm.

High pressure moving off the coast will give us a warm day with slowly increasing humidity.  We should have good viewing weather for the partial solar eclipse this afternoon, the show in our area starts around 1:20 p.m with the midpoint of the eclipse will be at 2:45 p.m when about 70% of the sun will be obscured, the eclipse will end at 4 p.m.  The only cloud cover should be some scattered fair weather cumulus this afternoon.

The high pressure will move further off the coast on Tuesday, there may be a shower in the early morning then become mostly sunny during the day, hot and humid with temperatures around 90 and dew points in the low 70s.   Showers and thunderstorms are possible at night into early Wednesday morning as a cold front swings through the area.

Wednesday we should have clearing skies, warm but become less humid during the afternoon.

High pressure will then be with us Thursday through the weekend giving us comfortably cool weather with plenty of sunshine and very low humidity.

FRIDAY – AUG 25 – Sunny, high in the upper 70s.

SUNDAY – AUG 27 – Mostly sunny, high in the upper 70s.

It is mostly clear early on this Sunday morning and temperatures range from the upper 60s in the Clifton area down to the upper 50s in some areas further inland, winds are light.

Today we will have plenty of sunshine and seasonably warm temperatures, humidity will stay low with dew points mostly in the low 60s.

We should have good viewing of the partial solar eclipse on Monday afternoon, temperatures will be warm and there will be an increase in humidity by evening.

Tuesday will be a hot and humid day but it should stay dry most of the day but there will be a chance of showers and thunderstorms at night.

A cold front will cross the area on Wednesday accompanied by a chance of showers and thunderstorms.

High pressure will then move in for the end of the week with cool temperatures, low humidity and plenty of sunshine both Thursday through at least the beginning of next weekend.

We have partly cloudy skies early on this Saturday morning and temperatures range from the low 70s in the Clifton area to the mid 60s further inland, it is still muggy with dew points around 70, there is also some  patchy fog in some areas mostly inland.

A cold front will cross the area this morning with less humid air following the front, skies will become mostly sunny and it will be quite warm with temperatures approaching the 90 degree mark.

Mostly sunny and comfortably warm Sunday and Monday as high pressure builds into the area.

Tuesday will be the hottest day of the week ahead of a cold front that may touch off a shower at night.

The front will give us a continued chance of showers on Wednesday.

Much cooler and dry air for Thursday and Friday.

FRIDAY  AUGUST 18, 2017  6:00 A.M.

It is very muggy this early morning with mainly cloudy skies, there are some showers now over parts of northwest New Jersey and the Poconos. Temperatures range from the mid 70s in the Clifton area down to the upper 60s further inland, winds are mainly calm.

The area of showers will move into our area this morning producing some heavy rain in spots. Then there may be a break in the rain later this morning into the afternoon with some possible sunshine, but as a cold front approaches the area more showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop later this afternoon and extend into this evening.  Some of the storms may be accompanied by strong gusty winds and heavy rain, some parts of the area have a flash flood watch in effect.

The front will clear the area Saturday morning as high pressure moves in.  It will be very warm both Saturday into Sunday with plenty of sunshine but it will be much less humid than today.

Mostly clear weather is still anticipated for Monday’s eclipse.

A frontal system may touch off showers and thunderstorms Tuesday evening into Wednesday.

Fair weather is expected at the end of next week with cooler and less humid conditions.

THURSDAY  AUGUST 17, 2017   5:45 A.M.

Skies are partly cloudy early on this Thursday morning and temperatures range from the upper 60s in the Clifton area down to the upper 50s further inland, winds are mainly calm.

High pressure moving off the coast will provide the area with another nice summer day with plenty of sunshine and seasonably warm temperatures.

Increasing cloudiness tonight as a warm front approaches the area, showers should hold off until after midnight.   The front will move north of the area on Friday bringing in much more humid air as dew points rise to the oppressive mid 70s.  Showers and thunderstorms are likely Friday into Friday night, some of the storms may be accompanied by heavy rain and gusty winds.

A cold front will cross the area early Saturday morning and we should have a rather nice weekend with plenty of sunshine both Saturday and Sunday along with lower humidity, it still will be rather warm.

High pressure will continue to bring us nice weather with limited clouds for the partial eclipse on Monday.

Another front may cause showers Tuesday into Wednesday, temperatures will remain seasonably warm.
