Skies across the area are mostly cloudy early on this Sunday morning and temperatures are about ten degrees warmer than this time yesterday ranging from the low 50s in Clifton down to the mid 40s further inland, winds are light southerly.

High pressure moving off the coast will cause a southerly flow of milder and somewhat more humid air into our area today, high temperatures will be about ten degrees milder than yesterday. There is a low chance of an afternoon shower. The southerly wind may gust to 20 mph this afternoon.

Warmer and a little more humid on Monday with showers likely mainly after 4 p.m., the rain may be heavy at times.

Some lingering showers Tuesday morning then it should be dry in the afternoon and night with cooler temperatures.

Yesterday at this time it looked like the rest of this week would be dry but now a low pressure off our coast may cause some rain Wednesday into Thursday with cool temperatures.

Fair weather then should return for Friday and Saturday with near normal temperatures.

Strong high pressure to our north will give us a mostly sunny and cool day today, winds will be lighter than yesterday.

The high will move offshore on Sunday causing a southerly flow of milder air, skies will become mostly cloudy.

Monday will be quite mild ahead of a slow moving cold front, this front will likely cause rain that may be heavy at times Monday afternoon through early Tuesday morning.

High pressure then will dominate our weather Wednesday through Friday with plenty of sunshine along with near normal temperatures.

Low pressure will be moving off the New England coast as high pressure builds from the Great Lakes. Sunshine will return after early morning cloudiness and it will become breezy, high temperatures will be near normal.

Saturday will be mostly sunny and it will be cool, early morning temperatures will fall into the 30s over much of the area and there may be some patchy frost well inland.

A southerly flow will bring milder temperatures into the area on Sunday, we should see an increase in clouds but we should remain dry.

Quite mild on Monday ahead of a slow moving cold front, we will likely have rain Monday afternoon through early Tuesday morning, some of the rain may be heavy at times.

Dry weather is expected Tuesday through Thursday with near seasonable temperatures as high pressure builds into our area.

After the incredibly hot day yesterday today will be much cooler with periods of rain and drizzle through tonight as a low pressure moves along the front to our south. Daytime highs will be around 35 degrees cooler than yesterday.

Weak high pressure will then build into our area and we will have clearing. It will be breezy with temperatures slightly below normal.

Saturday will be chilly and early morning lows will dip into the 30s over much of our area. Skies will be sunny.

Milder air will move into our area on Sunday but a cold front approaching the area will give us a chance of showers at night.

Showers are likely on Monday with mild temperatures as the cold front moves through the area.

High pressure offshore ahead of a cold front will give our area a west-southwest flow of unseasonably warm air today with records likely. High temperatures will be close to 90 degrees. The highest October temperature since my records began in 1973 is 88 degrees set on October 8, 2007 so a new monthly high temperature for this month is also possible today. The cold front will cross the area this evening giving us a chance of showers and thunderstorms, also it will become much cooler behind the front with temperatures possibly dropping 20 degrees in an hour or two.

A low pressure along the front will cause periods of rain on Thursday and it will be chilly with highs only around 60 degrees.

Mostly fair and cool Friday and Saturday as high pressure builds into the area. Temperatures early Saturday morning may drop down into the 30s with possible frost well inland.

Milder on Sunday but another front may cause showers late in the day and at night.

Chance of showers Monday and Tuesday as another cold front crosses our area.

For those people that may go to the beach on this hot day there is a high risk of dangerous riptides due to Hurricane Lorenzo which was well out in the eastern Atlantic. Point Pleasant Beach ocean temperature is 70 degrees.

OUTLOOK: Advisories expected Thursday and Friday; no advisories expected for Saturday and Sunday.
