Increasing clouds with rain developing late this afternoon and continuing into early Saturday morning! Becoming sunny and quite mild during the day on Saturday! More rain expected Sunday afternoon and night!

Skies are mostly clear on this New Year’s Day morning and temperatures range from the upper 20s in Clifton down to the upper teens further inland, winds are mainly calm.

High pressure will be moving offshore as a storm now located over the southeast states moves toward our area. Rain from this system is expected to move into our area around 5 p.m. and continue into early Saturday morning. The higher elevations to our north and west may have a period of sleet and freezing rain before changing to all rain after midnight as temperatures rise. Rainfall amounts 1/2 to 1″

After the rain ends Saturday morning we should see clearing with quite mild temperatures with highs in the 50s.

Another storm system is expected to develop off the coast on Sunday, rain from this system will develop around noon and end before daybreak on Monday. Again, areas to our north and west may see some frozen precipitation. Rainfall amounts 1/2 to 1″

The rest of next week looks to be mainly dry with temperatures averaging around five degrees above normal.

TUESDAY – JAN 5 – Partly sunny, high in the mid 40s.

WEDNESDAY – JAN 6 – Mostly sunny, high in the mid 40s.

THURSDAY – JAN 7 – Partly sunny, high in the mid 40s.

MARINE FORECAST: TODAY – Northeast wind to 10 knots, seas 1-2 feet.

OUTLOOK: A small craft advisory has been posted effective between 1 a.m. Saturday morning until 10 p.m. Saturday night; advisories likely Sunday and Monday; no advisories expected for Tuesday.
