Not as hot but staying humid with numerous showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and at night! Cooler and less humid Friday and Saturday with still a chance of showers! Mainly dry and warmer Sunday through the middle of next week!

Skies are partly cloudy early on this Thursday morning and temperatures are a little lower than the last couple of mornings with readings ranging from 72 in Clifton down to 65 at Walpack. The winds are mainly calm and the humidity continues to be high with dew points near 70.

Yesterday’s 99 degree reading was the hottest temperature at my station since July 2, 2018. It was also the highest June temperature since 1988 when it hit 100. At Newark Airport the temperature rose to 103 degrees which was their highest June temperature on record.

Today will be cooler with highs in the 80s but the humidity will remain high as a cold front approaches the area and move offshore tonight. Numerous showers and thunderstorms will develop mainly this afternoon and tonight. Some flash flooding is possible. Area rainfall amounts will be 1-3 inches.

Friday and Saturday will be cooler with slowly decreasing humidity and there still will be a chance of mainly afternoon and evening showers both days.

Sunday and Monday will be mainly dry with warmer temperatures.

Some hot weather will return for Tuesday and Wednesday but at this time the heat will be less intense and not as long as our past heatwave

TONIGHT – Showers with a chance of thunderstorms, some storms may be accompanied by heavy rain and gusty winds, low in the upper 60s.

FRIDAY – JULY 2 – Mostly cloudy with showers likely and a chance of a thunderstorm, high near 80.

SATURDAY – JULY 3 – Mostly cloudy and cool with a chance of showers, high in the low 70s.

INDEPENDENCE DAY – JULY 4 – Mostly sunny, high near 80.

MONDAY – JULY 5 – Mostly sunny, high in the upper 80s.

TUESDAY – JULY 6 – Sunny and hot, high in the low 90s.

WEDNESDAY – JULY 7 – Mostly sunny and hot, high near 90.

MARINE FORECAST: TODAY – South-southwest winds to 10 knots seas 1 foot. Point Pleasant Beach’s ocean temperature is 70 degrees.

OUTLOOK – No advisories expected Friday through Monday.
