Today we will between a trough to our west and tropical storm Henri that is now 600 miles south of Long Island. Skies will be partly sunny with near seasonable temperatures but there will be a chance of an afternoon shower or thunderstorm. Conditions will be humid with dew points near 70.

Tropical Storm Henri is expected to move up the coast and hit Long Island as a Category 1 hurricane on Sunday and then move slowly north. At this time rain heavy at times will begin late tonight and continue through Sunday. Rainfall amounts of 1-4 inches are possible with some higher amounts. At this time the winds in our area are not expected to be damaging with anticipated gusts to about 30 mph, however if the storm moves further west then winds will be higher.

Henri will move into New York state Sunday night and the rain should taper off.

Still a good chance of showers and thunderstorms on Monday as Henri moves further north.

A heat wave is possible Tuesday through Thursday as the Bermuda high pressure dominates our weather. Tuesday and Wednesday should be dry but there will be a low chance of showers Thursday and Friday as a cold front approaches the area.

Ex-tropical storm Fred caused heavy rain early yesterday morning with even a weak tornado reported in Rockaway in Morris County.

Today a weak front will be just offshore and will cause mostly cloudy skies today with a chance of an afternoon and evening shower.

Unsettled weather for the weekend as there will still be a upper level trough in our area along with approach of Tropical Storm Henri. At this time Henri is expected to come close to our area but remain just offshore and move into eastern Long Island or southeast New England as a hurricane. Showers and thunderstorms are likely both Saturday and Sunday and rain could be heavy at times. At this time wind will not be an issue in our area. Our coastal waters will likely have high waves and a high chance of dangerous rip currents both days.

Still a chance of showers on Monday but Tuesday and Wednesday should be dry and quite warm.

A front approaching from the west may give us a shower on Thursday but it will continue to be quite warm.

The remains of Tropical Storm Fred has moved into New York state and the rain from the system has moved to our east. Skies will become mostly sunny today but there is still a risk of an afternoon shower or thunderstorm. High temperatures will be well up into the 80s and it will continue to be humid with dew points near 70.

Most of Friday should be dry with only a chance of an evening shower. It will continue to be quite warm and humid.

Unsettled weather for the weekend as Tropical Storm Henri will be moving up the coast. At this time the storm is expected to move to our east and move toward the Cape Cod area on Sunday. At this time it appears that only our coastal areas will be affected with high seas and some rain. Regardless of the storm’s path we should continue to have humid conditions with some showers and thunderstorms likely.

Quite warm and humid conditions Monday through at least Wednesday with still a chance of showers on Monday.

Today will be a mostly cloudy and humid day once again with only a low chance of an afternoon shower, temperatures and humidity should be similar to yesterday with highs in the low 80s and dew points near 70.

The remains of Tropical Storm Fred will move into western Pennsylvania tonight and rain from this system will move into our area late tonight and continue to near daybreak on Thursday, rain may be heavy at times with 1-2 inches possible. There is even a slight chance of a weak tornado.

After Fred passes to our north and west on Thursday there still will be a chance of an afternoon and evening shower or thunderstorm.

Friday looks to be a dry and quite warm and humid day as weak high pressure builds over the area.

The weekend’s weather looks to be unsettled as a low pressure trough will be in our area. Sunday rain will be likely and we have to watch the path of Tropical Storm Henri as it moves toward the east coast.

Quite warm weather through at least the early part of next week with a chance of showers Monday and Tuesday.

The remnants of Tropical Storm Fred will move northward through Pennsylvania on Wednesday and showers with the system will be likely. Some models have the heaviest rain on Wednesday with some other models having the most rain on Thursday.

Today will be our last day of intense heat and high humidity as the Bermuda high continues to dominate our weather. Temperatures again will reach the upper 90s and with dew points in the 70s will cause heat indexes once again rise to above 110 degrees. An excessive heat warning continues in effect. There will again be a chance of showers and thunderstorms late today into tonight.

Saturday will be less hot but stay humid most of the day and showers and thunderstorms will be likely as a cold front crosses the area in the afternoon. Becoming less humid at night.

Sunday is looking to be a fantastic weather day with plenty of sunshine, seasonable warm tempertures and much less humidity.

The Bermuda high pressure ridge will continue to pump very hot and humid air into our area today and Friday. Skies will be mostly sunny both days with highs well up into the 90s and with dew points in the 70s it will push the heat index to over 110 both days. A excessive heat warning is in effect for today which will probably extend into Friday. There is a chance of showers and thunderstorms late in the day and evening today and especially on Friday.

A cold front will cross the area sometime on Saturday and it will not be as hot. There will be a chance of showers during the day followed by much less humid air at night.

Sunday should be a very nice late summer day with pleasant temperatures and humidity along with plenty of sunshine.

Near seasonable temperatures early next week but after a mostly sunny and dry day on Monday there will be another chance of showers Tuesday and Wednesday with a slow increase in humidity.
