January 21st marks the middle point of the winter as today has the lowest average temperature of the year. We will again be very cold today as Arctic high pressure builds over the area. Skies will be partly sunny with highs only in the 20s and with gusts to 20 mph will make it feel even colder.

The weekend will start off very cold as lows tomorrow morning will fall to the single digits but with sunshine during the day and high temperatures will be a couple of degrees higher than today with less wind. Sunday will again be dry with again slightly milder temperatures but still remain below normal.

Another cold day on Monday despite plenty of sunshine with highs staying below freezing.

Tuesday will be the mildest day of this upcoming week with highs near 40 but a cold front may cause some snow or rain showers in the afternoon and night.

Following the cold front, Arctic air will again move into the area and it will be very cold Wednesday through Friday, but we should stay dry.

There are indications at this time that February will average above normal as most of the colder weather will stay across the western part of the country.

The low pressure that gave us the stormy weather yesterday has moved north of Maine and high pressure is building from the southeast states. A brisk northwest flow of seasonably cold air will be with us today along with mostly sunny skies.

Wednesday will be milder but there will be lots of clouds around as a cold front approaches from the west. Some light rain at night will change to light snow Thursday morning which may cause a coating of snow.

Much colder air will filter into our area on Thursday with temperatures falling into the 20s by sunset along with brisk winds.

Very cold weather will continue Friday through the weekend and we will be tracking a possible storm that may give us snow Friday night into Saturday. Plenty of time to watch the possible strength and track of the storm but at the present time the GFS model has the storm well offshore while the European model has the storm closes to us which would give our area significant snowfall.

Dry and cold weather is expected Sunday into early next week.
