Light rain is falling across our area early on this Monday morning and temperatures range from the mid 30s in Clifton down to the upper 20s further inland with some icing.

The coastal low is just off the New Jersey coast and is expected to only move slowly offshore, rain from this system will fall early this morning and then mix with snow later this morning and to all snow this afternoon and tonight. Snowfall amounts are extremely uncertain as it depends where the bands of very heavy snow occur. At this time I will predict 4-7 inches of snow in our area. Travel for the evening commute may become very difficult where the heaviest snow falls.

Mainly dry weather Tuesday through the weekend with temperatures mainly below normal.

THE FORECAST:

TODAY – DEC 2 – Rain and snow this morning changing to all snow this afternoon, highs in the upper 30s falling to the low 30s by late in the day.

TONIGHT – Snow this evening, low in the low 30s, snowfall amounts of 4-7 inches possible.

CLIFTON’S SUMMARY FOR NOVEMBER 2019:

The average temperature was 41.1 degrees which was 3.0 degrees below normal. Highest temperature – 70 – 1st. Lowest temperature – 20 – 13th Precipitation was below normal with 2.59 inches falling. There was no snow accumulation.

Winter storm warning for our area for today and Monday as we start off meteorological winter. A storm in the midwest will move east then redevelop off our coast. Snow from this system will begin around 10-11 a.m. this morning quickly mixing with sleet and freezing rain this afternoon and then to all rain by tonight. Accumulations of snow and sleet will be around 1-2 inches in our area but more to our north and west.

The coastal storm will then intensify on Monday as it slowly moves up the coast and colder air will be moving into our area which will cause the precipitation change back to snow by morning and continue through Monday night. An additional 2-4 inches of snow accumulation with higher amounts across inland areas to our north and west.

Dry and more quiet weather Tuesday through the end of next week with seasonably cold temperatures.

TODAY – DEC 1 – Snow developing late this morning, mixing with sleet and freezing rain this afternoon then changing to all rain late this afternoon, high near 40, possible snow and sleet accumulations of 1-2 inches possible.

TONIGHT – Rain, low in the mid 30s.

MONDAY – DEC 2 – Rain early changing to snow by 10 a.m and continuing into the night, high in the upper 30s, new snow accumulations of 2-4 inches possible.

High pressure to our north will give us a partly sunny and cool day today but with much less wind than yesterday, we should see an increase in clouds by late this afternoon.

A complex low pressure system will give us precipitation Sunday and Monday. Snow should begin by late in the morning then change to a mixture of snow, sleet and freezing rain in the afternoon before changing to all rain Sunday night, accumulations on Sunday should be around 1-2 inches. The storm will become stronger as it slowly moves up the coast and rain should change to all snow by Monday afternoon and continue through the night, additional accumulations on Monday may be between 2-4 inches with higher amounts to our north and west.

Dry and cool weather is then expected Tuesday through the end of next week.

High pressure building down from eastern Canada will give us mostly sunny skies today, it will still be a little breezy but not as windy as yesterday, temperatures will be a little below normal.

High pressure will continue to dominate our weather on Saturday giving us a mostly sunny and cool day again but with less wind.

Low pressure will move into our area on Sunday and redevelop as a coastal storm, there is a chance of snow early on Sunday but most of the precipitation will hold off until late morning. Snow and sleet should change to rain late Sunday into Sunday night. The coastal storm will be slow to move away from our area so Monday, rain should gradually change back to snow before ending Monday night. Snowfall amounts will depend on the track and intensity of the storm but at this time 1-2 inches are possible across the Clifton area with higher accumulations to our north and west.

Today will be a colder and windy day as the combination of low pressure off the Maine coast and high pressure building down from central Canada will combine to give our area a strong northwest flow of air, some gusts will be near 40 mph. Skies will be mostly sunny.

Dry and seasonably cold weather Friday and Saturday as high pressure builds closer to our area from the north.

Low pressure will move into our area on Sunday and intensify just off our coast. Snow is likely Sunday morning possibly giving our area an inch or so of accumulation before mixing and changing to rain Sunday afternoon. Rain may change back to snow or snow showers on Monday with some accumulation again possible especially further inland.

Dry and chilly weather Tuesday and Wednesday.
