Good Friday morning everyone!  A chilly start to this morning with mostly clear skies, temperatures range from the low 20s in the Clifton area down to the low teens further inland, winds are mainly calm.

Today we should see an increase in clouds, there is a chance of some snow showers to our north and west with just a flurry possible in our area, high temperatures will be seasonably cold but there will be less wind than yesterday.   Tonight will be milder with temperatures not falling from today’s afternoon highs.

Milder over the weekend as a warm front moves to our north, there is a chance of rain during the day but the bulk of the rain will be falling Saturday night into Sunday which may be heavy at times, 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 inches of rainfall is likely.

Monday should be dry with seasonably mild temperatures.

Unsettled weather for the middle to late week period with some showers  possible, temperatures through next week will average above normal.

THURSDAY  FEBRUARY 8, 2017  5:40 A.M.

Good Thursday morning!   Skies are mostly cloudy early this morning and temperatures range from the mid 20s in the Clifton area to the mid teens further inland, winds are brisk out of the northwest.  It may be icy on untreated roads and sidewalks so be careful if you are heading out this morning.

Today will be a cold and breezy day with temperatures struggling to reach the freezing mark.  High pressure will be building from the midwest.

Tomorrow we should see some increasing cloudiness it will be milder after a cold start.

Milder still on the weekend but a storm system is expected to give the area rain from Saturday night through Sunday.

Mild much of next week and we may have more rain on Tuesday.

WEDNESDAY  FEBRUARY 7, 2018  5:47 A.M.

Good Wednesday morning!    Skies now are mostly cloudy early this morning and temperatures are seasonably cold with readings ranging from the upper 20s in the Clifton area down to the mid teens further inland, winds are light.

Precipitation should move into our area around 8 a.m. starting off as snow but quickly changing to sleet and freezing rain, as warmer air moves into the area the frozen precipitation will change to plain rain and continue into this evening.   Snow and ice accumulations should be around an inch before the changeover but higher amounts up to six inches are possible across inland sections of northwest New Jersey.   The rain this afternoon and evening may be heavy at times, total liquid precipitation will be around an inch.

Much colder air will move into the area late tonight and any standing water may freeze and possibly affect tomorrow morning’s commute.

Dry and seasonably cold weather is expected tomorrow and Friday, winds will be gusty tomorrow but be less on Friday.

Another low pressure system will affect our area from late Saturday afternoon through Sunday but this time there isn’t much cold air around so the precipitation should fall as plain rain.

Dry early next week with temperatures a bit above normal.

TONIGHT – Rain ending by 8 p.m. then clearing, breezy and colder, lows in the low 20s.

THURSDAY – FEB 8 – Sunny and breezy, high only in the low 30s.

FRIDAY – FEB 9 – Mostly cloudy, high in the mid 30s.

SATURDAY – FEB 10 – Mostly cloudy and milder with a chance of rain in the afternoon, high in the upper 40s,  rain likely at night.

SUNDAY – FEB 11 – Cloudy with rain likely, high near 50.

MONDAY – FEB 12 – Mostly sunny, high in the low 40s.

TUESDAY – FEB 13 – Mostly sunny, high in the mid 40s.

MARINE FORECAST:   A small craft advisory will be effect from noon today until noon on Thursday.  Southwest winds today gusting to 30 mph, seas 4-7 feet. winds becoming northwest tonight with possible gale gusts.

OUTLOOK – No advisories expected Thursday afternoon through Sunday.

TUESDAY  FEBRUARY 6, 2018  5:47 A.M.

The area has overcast skies early on this Tuesday morning and temperatures range from the mid 20s in the Clifton area down to the upper teens further inland, winds are mainly calm.

A weak disturbance to our north will cause cloudy skies mainly this morning along with a few flurries, some clearing should occur by late this afternoon, temperatures will be milder than yesterday and with much less wind it will feel more comfortable.

A frontal system will be moving into the area on Wednesday, snow should begin around the morning commute and accumulate 1-2 inches before changing to rain.  Further inland the changeover will be later and 4-7 inches if snow is possible across the northwest part of New Jersey where a winter storm watch is in effect.   The rain should end by early evening and rainfall amounts should be around 3/4 of an inch.

Fair and colder weather on Thursday and it will be breezy.

Dry weather Friday into Saturday with a slight warming trend.

Another system will give us a chance of rain on Sunday along with mild temperatures.

40 years ago today we had a severe blizzard in our area with 20 inches of snow and very strong winds.

MONDAY  FEBRUARY 5, 2018  5:39 A.M.

Skies are mostly cloudy around the area early this morning and temperatures range from the mid 30s in Clifton to around 30 further inland, winds are light.   Where the temperatures are below freezing there may be some icy patches on the ground from yesterday’s precipitation.

High pressure building in from the west will give us a mostly sunny day with seasonably cold temperatures, the winds will get gusty by mid morning with some gusts to 35 mph are possible.

Tuesday we will have less wind with continued seasonably cold temperatures, skies will become sunny after early morning cloudiness.

Another low pressure area will move into the area on Wednesday with snow changing to rain by Wednesday afternoon, this time we may have more accumulating snow before the changeover especially further inland.

Dry with again seasonably cold temperatures Thursday and Friday.

Still another low pressure area will give us a chance of snow or rain over the weekend.
