THURSDAY FEBRUARY 9, 2017  6:00 A.M.

Snow is falling over the area on this Thursday morning and temperatures that were around 40 at midnight have fallen to the upper 20s in the Clifton area and to the low 20s further inland, winds are gusty out of the north, about an inch and a half of snow has already accumulated as of 6 a.m.

Snow will be heavy this morning with snowfall rates of 1-2 inches per hour possible, the snow should taper off this afternoon but not before 8-12 inches have fallen across most of the area with possible higher amounts, strong gusty northerly winds will cause blowing and drifting snow through this afternoon.  Temperatures will continue to fall with afternoon highs only in the low to mid 20s.  Clearing by this evening but it will be very cold with temperatures falling to the low teens by Friday morning.

High pressure over the area on Friday will give us dry and very cold conditions but with diminishing winds.

A weak warm front approaching the area will give us a chance of light snow Friday night.

Milder weather for the weekend with highs reaching the 40s.  Another trough will give us a good chance of light rain on Sunday.

Later Monday into Tuesday should be dry and seasonably mild but another storm system may give us rain or snow on Wednesday.

TODAY – FEB 9 – Snow heavy at times mainly this morning, highs falling through the 20s, winds gusting to 35 mph. Accumulations 8-12 inches.

TONIGHT – Partly cloudy and very cold with diminishing winds, low in the low teens.

FRIDAY – FEB 10 – Mostly sunny, high in the upper 20s, chance of light snow at night.

SATURDAY – FEB 11 – Mostly cloudy and not as cold, high in the low 40s.

WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 8, 2017  6:10 A.M.

We have cloudy skies early on this Wednesday morning and there is considerable fog, temperatures range from the upper 30s in the Clifton area to the low 30s further inland, winds are light.  A warm front is across the central part of New Jersey, south of the warm front temperatures are now in the upper 50s to the low 60s.

The warm front will move north of us this morning with tempertures rising rapidly into the 50s and close to 60 by noon today with some record high temperatures likely.  A cold front will come through dry early this afternoon and temperatures will fall into the 40s by sunset.

A low pressure storm will move to Virginia and then off the coast on Thursday look for snow to develop around 3 a.m. and become quite heavy at times for the morning commute when snowfall amounts may be falling at a rate of 2 inches per hour, there is even a chance of some thundersnow, accumulations should average 6-10 inches with some areas could approach a foot.  The snow should taper off to light snow in the afternoon and end by evening. A winter storm warning is in effect from midnight tonight until 6 p.m. Thursday evening.

Bitter cold on Friday but dry, temperatures will be in the low teens in the morning struggling to reach 30 in the afternoon.

The very cold weather will be short lived as a warm front will pass through on Saturday morning possibly preceded by some  light snow Friday night.  Another trough will come through the area on Sunday giving us a chance of rain.

Mostly dry with seasonably mild temperatures early next week.

TONIGHT – Becoming cloudy with snow developing after midnight, accumulations 3-5 inches by sunrise, low around 30.

THURSDAY – FEB 9 – Snow heavy at times mainly in the morning, chance of thundersnow, windy, high only in the low 30s, total snow accumulation 6-10 inches.

FRIDAY – FEB 10 – Mostly sunny and quite cold, high only in the upper 20s.  Chance of light now at night.

SATURDAY – FEB 11 – Mostly cloudy and not as cold, high in the low 40s.

SUNDAY – FEB 12 – Cloudy with a chance of light rain, high in the mid 40s.

MONDAY – FEB 13 – Partly sunny, high in the upper 40s.

MARINE FORECAST:  Small craft advisory in effect till 6 p.m. this evening for southwest winds becoming northwest with gusts to 25 knots, seas 2-3 feet.

OUTLOOK – A gale warning will be in effect from 6 a.m on Thursday till 6 a.m on Friday; small craft advisory conditions continuing on Friday with no advisories expected over the weekend.

TUESDAY FEBRUARY 7, 2017  6:12 A.M.

Skies are overcast early on this Tuesday morning and there are some areas of light rain in the area with some freezing rain well inland, temperatures range from the mid 30s in the Clifton area to the mid 20s in some areas well inland, winds are light.

Today a warm front associated with a low pressure area in the mid-west will cause some light rain today mostly falling this morning, inland areas the precipitation is starting as freezing rain but should change to all rain as warmer air moves into the region, temperatures will rise to the 40s later today.

A cold front will cross the area tomorrow morning but with some sunshine record high tempertures in the 60s are possible, there is slight chance of some showers.

A low pressure storm is expected to form offshore late tomorrow night and cause rain changing to snow, the snow will end in the early afternoon on Thursday but not before dumping around 4-6 inches.

Cold and dry on Friday.

The weekend should be milder but there is a chance of light snow Saturday morning and possible rain showers on Sunday.

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 6, 2017  5:54 A.M.

Skies are mostly cloudy early on the day after last night’s exciting Super Bowl, temperatures are on the mild side ranging from the upper 30s in the Clifton area to the low 30s further inland, winds are light.

Today a weak area of high pressure will cause clearing after morning clouds, temperatures will be seasonably mild.  Clouds will increase tonight ahead of the next storm system.

The storm will move into the Great Lakes and a warm front will be crossing the area during the day, rain will develop in the morning with freezing rain well inland across the Poconos and extreme northwest New Jersey which should change to rain after the morning commute.  The heaviest rain should occur Tuesday afternoon and evening along with rising temperatures.

Possible record temperatures on Wednesday ahead of a cold front that will pass through in the evening possibly accompanied by some showers.

After posting in my blog yesterday that there was no signs of a significant snow for a couple of weeks it now looks like a storm will develop offshore and there will be enough cold air to produce rain changing to snow, accumulations may be significant with 4-6 inches possible.

After the storm it will be colder the rest of Thursday into Friday followed by milder temperatures over the weekend along with a chance of showers.

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 5, 2017 6:01 A.M.

Skies are mostly cloudy early on this Sunday morning and temperatures are a little milder than this time yesterday ranging from the upper 20s in the Clifton area to around 20 further inland, winds are light.

Today we see mostly cloudy conditions with milder temperatures, highs will be around 5-8 degrees higher than what was recorded yesterday.  High pressure will be moving off the coast and a southwest flow will dominate, there is an outside chance of a flurry of sprinkle but most areas will stay dry.

A weak cold front will cross the area tonight but Monday’s temperatures will still be slightly above normal, the day will start off sunny with increasing cloudiness later in the day.

A rather strong storm system will give us mostly rain Tuesday into Wednesday although inland may see a wintry mix Tuesday morning, temperatures will become quite mild late Tuesday into Wednesday.  A cold front will cross the area Wednesday afternoon.

Colder air but dry Thursday and Friday as high pressure moves into the area.

The cold air will be short lived as milder than normal air will once again be with us next weekend along with a chance of some showers.

February is usually our snowiest month but there is no signs of any significant snowstorms for at least the next two weeks.
