In Clifton we have a mix of rain and snow early on this Wednesday morning while inland areas are mainly snow, temperatures range from 33 here in Clifton to the upper 20s further inland, there is a light northerly wind.

The mixed precipitation in our area will shortly change to all snow as colder air filters in behind a weak coastal low pressure.  The snow may come down moderately to heavy for about three hours and will end by noon today, accumulations will range from 2-3 inches in Clifton to 4-6 inches across northwest sections of New Jersey and the Poconos.  Clearing will take place this afternoon but temperatures should remain in the low 30s.   Colder tonight with lows falling into the upper teens.

Thursday will be a dry day with seasonably cold temperatures.

Dry weather Friday through the weekend with a warming trend and we should see some 50 degree temperatures by Saturday.

The next chance of precipitation will be Monday afternoon into Tuesday as a front crosses the area however it will be warm enough so the precipitation will fall as rain which may be heavy at times.

THE FORECAST:

TODAY – JAN 17 –  Mixed precipitation changing to all snow and ending by noon, highs steady in the low 30s, snow amounts will be around 2-3 inches.

TONIGHT – Becoming mostly clear, low in the mid teens.

THURSDAY – JAN 18 – Sunny, high in the mid 30s.

FRIDAY – JAN 19 – Sunny, high near 40.

SATURDAY – JAN 20 – Mostly sunny, high near 50.

SUNDAY – JAN 21 – Mostly sunny, high near 50.

MONDAY – JAN 22 – Mostly cloudy with a chance of rain in the afternoon, high in the upper 40s.

TUESDAY – JAN 23 – Cloudy with rain likely in the morning then becoming partly sunny in the afternoon with a chance of a shower, high in the upper 40s.

MARINE FORECAST:  A small craft advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. this evening for northwest winds gusting to 30 knots, seas 4-6 feet.

OUTLOOK – Small craft conditions expected during the day on Thursday;  no advisories expected Thursday night through Sunday.

TUESDAY  JANUARY 16, 2018   5:40 A.M.

Our area has cloudy skies early on this Tuesday morning and there are some snow flurries across extreme northwest New Jersey and the Poconos, temperatures are not as cold as the last few mornings ranging from the low 20s in the Clifton area down to the mid teens further inland, winds are mainly calm.

High pressure will be moving off the coast today as a weak front approaches from the west, we should have cloudy skies for the most part today with only a few snow showers well inland, temperatures will not be as cold today rising to above freezing.

A low pressure is expected to develop off the Carolina coast today and move northeast, snow associated with this system will move into the area mostly after midnight and continue into Wednesday morning, snowfall amounts of 2-4 inches is expected in the Clifton area with 4-6 inches to our north and west, less accumulation along the coast where rain may mix in at times.

Dry weather and seasonable cold Wednesday afternoon through Thursday.

Dry weather to continue Friday through the weekend with a warming trend, highs by the weekend will approach the 50 degree mark.

The next chance of precipitation will be on Monday but it will be in the form of rain.

MONDAY  JANUARY 15, 2018  5:45 A.M.

Skies are partly cloudy early on this Martin Luther King Day and temperatures are quite cold again ranging from the low teens in the Clifton area to some single digits further inland, winds are from the north averaging 5-10 mph.

Today we should see an increase in clouds as a strong Arctic high pressure moves off the New England coast, once again it will be quite cold with afternoon highs only reaching the upper 20s, winds should be less than the last few days.

A weak disturbance moving into the area will likely give us some light snow Tuesday afternoon into early Wednesday morning, accumulations should average around an inch or two.

Dry weather on Thursday with seasonably cold temperatures.

Dry weather to continue Friday through the weekend with a warming trend.

SUNDAY  JANUARY 14, 2018  5:45 A.M.

The area has mostly clear skies early on this Sunday morning and temperatures are quite cold ranging from the low teens in the Clifton area down to some single digits above zero further inland, winds are gusty out of the northwest.

Today we will enjoy plenty of sunshine but it will be very cold again today but with a little less wind than on Saturday,  highs will be in the upper 20s.  Arctic high pressure over the upper midwest will dominate our weather.

Another very cold day on Monday as the Arctic high will move eastward to near Maine, however the winds will be lighter.

A weak disturbance on Tuesday may give us some snow showers but with slightly milder air moving in the snow may mix with rain in the afternoon, little or no accumulation is expected.

Another disturbance will give us a chance of snow once again on Wednesday but at this time it appears that the low pressure will be weak and further offshore, still something to watch.

Thursday will be quite cold and dry.

Milder Friday through the weekend and we should remain dry.

Looking ahead for what is worth indicates that above normal temperatures will be with us the last part of this month into early February.

SATURDAY  JANUARY 13, 2018  5:54 A.M.

A strong cold front has just moved to our east and temperatures are beginning to fall rapidly from the 50s into the 40s in Clifton and has fallen to the low 30s further inland, winds have become gusty out of the northwest.

The front will move further offshore as a cold Arctic high pressure over the upper Great Plains states build eastward.  We should see rapid clearing with temperatures falling into the 20s by sunset, winds will be gusty.

Very cold start to the day on Sunday with overnight lows tonight falling to around 10, winds will slowly diminish.  Skies will be mostly clear.

Still very cold on Monday with lighter winds.

A couple of disturbances moving into the area will give the area a chance of light snow on Tuesday and another chance of snow on Wednesday, temperatures will not be as cold.

Colder again on Thursday with a moderating trend Friday through next weekend.
