Sunny, windy and cold today! Mostly sunny and milder on Wednesday with much less wind! Extended period of dry weather to continue through at least early next week!


Good morning!

Skies are mostly clear early on this Tuesday morning and it is windy and cold. Temperatures at 5 a.m. range from 20 in Clifton down to 11 degrees at High Point. Winds are gusting at times over 40 mph and wind chills are in the single digits.

CLIFTON’S ALMANAC FOR MARCH 2ND:

AVERAGE HIGH: 44 AVERAGE LOW: 28

YESTERDAY’S HIGH: 46 LOW: 29 PRECIPITATION: .22

Today will be a cold and windy day along with mostly sunny skies. High temperatures will only be in the 30s but with winds gusting at times above 40 mph will make it feel much colder. Winds will diminish by this evening.

High pressure building into the area on Wednesday will again give us mostly sunny skies with much milder temperatures and much less wind.

An unusual stretch of dry weather is expected through at least into early next week. Temperatures will mainly be below normal.

Looking further ahead it appears that much of next week will be milder with some highs possibly in the 60s.

THE FORECAST:

TODAY – MAR 2 – Sunny, windy and cold, high in the mid 30s. Winds gusting to 45 mph and a wind advisory is in effect.

TONIGHT – Mostly clear with diminishing winds, low in the mid 20s.

WEDNESDAY – MAR 3 – Sunny and milder, high in the low 50s.

THURSDAY – MAR 4 – Sunny and cooler, high in the low 40s.

FRIDAY – MAR 5 – Sunny and breezy, high near 40.

SATURDAY – MAR 6 – Sunny, high in the low 40s.

SUNDAY – MAR 7 – Mostly sunny, high in the mid 40s.

MONDAY – MAR 8 – Sunny, high in the upper 40s.

MARINE FORECAST: A gale warning is in effect until 1 p.m. this afternoon for northwest winds gusting to 45 knots, seas 4-6 feet.

OUTLOOK – Small craft advisories still possible Wednesday morning; no advisories expected for Wednesday afternoon and night; advisories likely Thursday and Friday; no advisories expected on Saturday.

CLIFTON’S SUMMARY FOR FEBRUARY 2021 (Records go back to 1973)

February’s average temperature was 31.6 degrees which is near normal. The highest temperature was 55 on the 24th, the lowest was 12 degrees on the 8th. Precipitation was above normal with 5.18″. Snowfall was 35.5″ which made it the snowiest February since my records began.

SUMMARY FOR THE WINTER MONTHS DECEMBER THROUGH FEBRUARY:

This winter month’s average temperature 33.7 degrees which was slightly above normal. Precipitation was above normal with 12.59 inches. Snowfall was much above normal with 47.5″ accumulating.
