Cloudy and becoming windy with record high temperatures expected with showers likely! Sunny and cooler on Sunday! Dry and mild much of next week!

Skies are cloudy early on this Saturday morning and some scattered showers are falling in parts of the area. Temperatures are mild with readings at 5 a.m. ranging from 42 in Clifton down to 36 at High Point. Winds are mainly calm.

CLIFTON’S ALMANAC FOR DECEMBER 11TH:

YESTERDAY’S HIGH: 48 LOW: 36 PRECIPITATION: NONE

A warm front will move north of our area this morning associated with some scattered showers. We should see a break in the rain this afternoon and a strong southerly flow will develop sending temperatures to record levels with highs well up into the 60s. The record high in Clifton was 62 set in 2015, the record for Newark is 65 set in 1971 and the record for Central Park is 64 set way back in 1879. A cold front will pass by our area this evening with showers developing. Winds with the front may gust to 45 mph and a wind advisory is in effect.

Much quieter weather for Sunday with cooler temperatures, winds will be brisk in the morning but diminsh in the afternoon.

Dry and mild weather is still expected next week with most highs in the 50s but be in the 60s on Thursday.

THE FORECAST:

TODAY – DEC 11 – Cloudy with showers mainly this morning, highs in the mid 60s. Winds will increase and gust to 30 mph in the afternoon.

TONIGHT – Cloudy with showers and possibly a thunderstorm this evening and a chance of showers after midnight. Very windy with gusts to 45 mph. A wind advisory is in effect. Low in the upper 30s.

SUNDAY – DEC 12 – Sunny with diminishing winds, high near 50.

MONDAY – DEC 13 – Sunny, high in the mid 50s.

TUESDAY – DEC 14 – Mostly sunny, high in the mid 50s.

WEDNESDAY – DEC 15 – Mostly cloudy, high in the low 50s.

THURSDAY – DEC 16 – Mostly cloudy in the morning then becoming partly sunny, high in the low 60s.

FRIDAY – DEC 17 – Partly sunny, high in the mid 50s.

MARINE FORECAST: A gale warning is in effect until 4 a.m. Sunday morning for southerly winds gusting to 35 knots becoming northwest and gusting to 40 mph this evening. Seas 7-10 feet.

OUTLOOK – Advisories likely Sunday morning; no advisories expected Sunday afternoon through Wednesday.
