Skies are mostly cloudy to cloudy early on this Thursday morning and it is considerably milder than this time yesterday with temperatures at 5 a.m. ranging from 46 in Clifton down to 33 at Pequest. Winds are from the southwest around 10 mph.

Strong south to southwest wind today will boost temperatures in the low 60s despite plenty of clouds.

A strong cold front will approach our area tonight and move off the coast early Friday morning. Rain from this system will fall from around 9 p.m. tonight though 7 a.m. tomorrow morning with about 3/4 of an inch likely. Winds will become even stronger with gusts above 45 mph and a wind advisory is in effect.

We should see clearing during the day on Friday and it will become colder with brisk northwest winds. Temperatures in the upper 50s in the early a.m. will drop to the mid to upper 30s by sunset.

Chilly and windy weather for the weekend and it will be mainly dry but there is a slight chance of flurries during the day on Saturday as a weak cold front crosses our area.

Milder weather returns by Monday with a chance of showers Tuesday into Wednesday.

TONIGHT – Rain heavy at times with thunderstorms possible, strong gusty winds above 45 mph, low near 50.

SATURDAY – FEB 19 – Increasing cloudiness and breezy, high near 40.

SUNDAY – FEB 20 – Sunny, high near 40.

PRESIDENTS DAY – FEB 21 – Mostly sunny and milder, high in the low 50s.

TUESDAY – FEB 22 – Cloudy with rain likely, high in the mid 50s.

WEDNESDAY – FEB 23 – Cloudy with a chance of showers, high in the upper 50s.

TODAY: A small craft advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. this evening for southerly winds gusting to 30 knots, seas 3-6 feet.

OUTLOOK – A gale warning has been issued effective between 6 p.m. this evening until 1 p.m. Friday afternoon; small craft advisories expected during the day on Friday; no advisories expected Friday night; gale warnings expected on Saturday; no advisories expected for Sunday and Monday.
