Partly sunny and much cooler today with showers and thunderstorms likely tonight! Warmer on Thursday but showers again likely in the afternoon and night! Chance of a morning shower on Friday then clearing! Very nice weather expected for the weekend!

Good morning everyone and happy first day of meteorological summer!

Skies are mostly cloudy early on this Wednesday morning and temperatures at 5 a.m. are cooler over our area with Clifton down to 59 degrees, while further inland in Sussex County readings are in the mid 60s. Winds are from the northeast.

CLIFTON’S ALMANAC FOR JUNE 1ST:

AVERAGE HIGH: 76 AVERAGE LOW: 57

RECORD HIGH: 93 – 2011 RECORD LOW: 44 – 2001

YESTERDAY’S HIGH: 96 (New Record) LOW: 71 PRECIPITATION: NONE

The 96 degree temperature yesterday was a record for the date and the hottest May temperature since 1987 when it hit 97 degrees on May 30th.

The back door cold front moved to our south and west late last night and we now have a northeast flow of much cooler air. High temperatures today will be around 25 degrees lower than yesterday. Skies will be partly sunny but as the front moves back toward our area showers and thunderstorms are likely mainly from late this afternoon through this evening. Some of the storms may be accompanied by heavy downpours.

The front will move back to our north Thursday morning followed by a cold front that will cross the area Thursday night of early Friday morning. Thursday morning should be dry but showers are likely again in the afternoon with still a chance of a shower early Friday morning followed by clearing Friday afternoon.

High pressure will dominate our weather this weekend providing our area with beautiful early June weather with mostly sunny skies both days, low humidity and seasonably warm temperatures.

Continued near seasonably warm temperatures early next week, a front may give us a couple of showers Tuesday.
