Skies are mostly clear early on this Thursday morning, but there is some patchy fog of inland areas. Temperatures at 5 a.m. range from 54 in Clifton down to 45 at Hackettstown. Winds are calm or light westerly.

High pressure will build into the area as the stubborn low pressure that gave us the rain and cloudy skies of the last few days weakens and moves further offshore. Sunshine returns today for the first time this month and temperatures will rise to above normal readings with highs in the 70s.

Still mild on Friday but a cold front will cross the area at night with a slight chance of some sprinkles mainly inland.

Cooler but dry weather with plenty of sunshine for the weekend, temperatures will average below normal.

High pressure will continue to dominate much of next week, temperatures will be slightly below normal on Monday and rise to near or slightly above normal for the rest of the week.

The low pressure off the coast that has given us clouds and precipitation the last few days will weaken and slowly move to the east, showers are still likely along with cloudy skies today, most of the showers will be this morning. Clearing late tonight.

Finally we will see sunshine Thursday and Friday as high pressure builds into the area. High temperatures will be a little above normal with readings in the 70s. A cold front will cross the area Friday night with only a little cloudiness.

Cooler but dry weather is expected for the weekend as high pressure builds back into our area.

At this time it looks like most of next week will be dry with slowly moderating temperatures.

Rain is falling over much of the area early on this Tuesday morning and temperatures are quite cool with readings at 5 a.m. ranging from 43 in Clifton down to 40 at Vernon. Winds continue to be brisk out of the north. 1.26″ of rain has fallen at my station in Clifton since midnight.

The pesky coastal storm remains nearly stationary off the Delmarva coast and bands of rain will continue today along with cloudy skies and brisk winds. Highs again will only be in the low 50s and with the wind it will feel even colder.

The low will only slowly move further offshore on Wednesday with a good chance of showers mainly in the morning.

We finally will see sunshine on Thursday as high pressure builds into the area and temperatures will rise to above normal levels.

Still mild on Friday but a cold front will cross the area by evening with only a little cloudiness.

Cool and breezy weather for the weekend but we should see sunshine both days.

Dry weather expected with milder temperatures Monday through at least next Wednesday.

Yesterday the Clifton area had no rain but quite a bit of rain fell just to our south with Newark reporting nearly 1/2″ of rain and a record 2.50″ at Atlantic City.

Today we will have another cloudy day as the remains of Ian is still just off the New Jersey coast. Winds will be brisk but not as windy as yesterday. We should remain dry as most of the precipitation will remain to our south and east.

There will be a chance of rain on Tuesday as the coastal low pressure still sits off the coast and some bands of mainly light rain is possible but the best rain chances will be again to our south and east.

Chance of a morning shower on Wednesday then dry weather with a slow increase in temperatures the rest of Wednesday into Friday. A cold front should come through dry Friday evening.

Nice but cool weather is expected for the upcoming weekend.

The remains of Ian which is now over Virginia, along with strong high pressure to our north, will combine to give us a brisk northeast flow of cool air. Skies will remain cloudy with a chance of mainly light rain, especially to our south and east.

The remains of Ian will then redevelop off the coast Monday and Tuesday but at this time most if not all of the precipitation will remain to our south and east. Winds will still be brisk out of the northeast with some coastal flooding likely.

Finally some clearing with milder temperatures Wednesday through Friday as high pressure moves into our area. A cold front should cross our area on Friday followed by a dry but cool weather for next weekend.

CLIFTON’S CLIMATE SUMMARY FOR SEPTEMBER 2022

Temperatures averaged slightly above normal for the month. Highest temperature was 89 recorded on the 4th and the lowest temperature was 45 degrees on the 24th.

Precipitation was slightly below normal with 3.51″ accumulating. The wettest day was on the 6th with 1.05″.
