Rain has just begun in the area early on this Saturday morning and temperatures range from 55 in Clifton down to 49 at High Point. Winds are a little gusty out of the northeast. The air quality is good with an index of 31.

Tropical storm Ophelia is moving on shore in North Carolina and will move slowly northward over the weekend before dissipating by Sunday night. Rain from this system has moved into the area and we should see periods of rain possibly heavy at times today along with gusty northwest winds to 35 mph. Sunday we will have showers and possibly some thunderstorms with winds slowly decreasing. Rainfall amounts this weekend will average 1-3 inches. High temperatures will be only near 60 today and in the mid 60s on Sunday. Not an ideal start to autumn that began at 2:50 a.m. this morning.

Still a chance of showers on Monday as there will be some lingering moisture in the area.

Mainly dry and cool weather Tuesday through Friday.

SUNDAY – SEP 24 – Cloudy with showers and isolated thunderstorms, breezy, highs in the mid 60s.

MONDAY – SEP 25 – Cloudy with showers likely mainly in the morning, highs in the upper 60s.

TUESDAY – SEP 26 – Mostly cloudy, highs in the upper 60s.

WEDNESDAY – SEP 27 – Mostly sunny, highs in the upper 60s.

THURSDAY – SEP 28 – Partly sunny, highs in the upper 60s.

FRIDAY – SEP 29 – Mostly sunny, highs near 70.

MARINE FORECAST: A storm warning is in effect until 6 p.m. this evening for northeast winds gusting to 50 knots, seas 9-14 feet. minor to moderate coastal flooding expected.

OUTLOOK: Small craft advisories likely Sunday through Tuesday and still possible on Wednesday.
