Rain is falling over much of the area early on this Friday morning and temperatures range from 56 in Clifton down to 51 at High Point. Winds are mainly light from the northeast. The air quality is moderate with an index of 53.

A coastal storm with some of the remains of ex-tropical storm Ophelia will give us heavy rain today into tonight. A flash flood watch is in effect for 2-4 inches of rain with some higher amounts possible.

The storm will move further offshore on Saturday but we will have lingering showers mainly in the morning with possible sunshine by late in the afternoon.

A long stretch of dry and mild weather Sunday through much of next week with highs mainly in the upper 70s to near 80 each day.

THE FORECAST:

TODAY – SEP 29 – Flood watch in effect! Showers and isolated thunderstorms with heavy rain likely, breezy, highs in the low 60s.

TONIGHT – Cloudy with showers and a slight chance of thunderstorms, rain will be heavy at times, breezy, lows in the upper 50s. Total rainfall averaging 2-4 inches with higher amounts possible.

SATURDAY – SEP 30 – Lingering showers likely in the morning with partial clearing late in the day, highs in the mid 60s.

SUNDAY – OCT 1 – Sunny, highs in the upper 70s.

MONDAY – OCT 2 – Sunny, highs in the upper 70s.

TUESDAY – OCT 3 – Sunny, highs near 80.

WEDNESDAY – OCT 4 – Sunny, highs in the upper 70s.

THURSDAY – OCT 5 – Partly sunny, highs in the mid 70s.

MARINE FORECAST: A small craft advisory is in effect until 8 p.m. Sunday evening for northeast winds gusting to 30 knots, seas 5-8 feet.

OUTLOOK: Advisories still possible on Monday; no advisories expected for Tuesday.
