Skies are cloudy early on this Sunday morning and temperatures continue to be mild with readings ranging from 45 in Clifton down to 38 at High Point. Winds are light from the northeast. The air quality is moderate with an index of 58.

A powerful storm will affect our area mainly tonight into Monday. Most of the rain during the day will be light but heavy rain is expected to develop this evening and continue through the morning commute Monday morning. Rainfall amounts will average between 2-4 inches with some higher amounts possible. Southeast winds will increase later tonight and may gust to 45 mph which may cause some power outages.

The rain will taper off Monday morning but there will be a chance of rain through Monday evening.

Still a chance of showers on Tuesday as the storm moves further offshore, it will become much cooler and breezy.

Dry weather is expected Wednesday through the beginning of the weekend along with seasonably cool temperatures.

TONIGHT – Rain heavy at times with a chance of a thunderstorm, increasing southeast winds developing late tonight gusting to 45 mph. lows in the low 50s.

MONDAY – DEC 18 – Rain heavy at times in the morning with isolated thunderstorms. Windy with gusts to 40 mph. Chance of showers in the afternoon, early highs near 60.

TUESDAY – DEC 19 – Partly sunny and breezy with a chance of showers, much cooler, highs in the low 40s.

WEDNESDAY – DEC 20 – Sunny, highs in the mid 40s.

THURSDAY – DEC 21 – Sunny, highs in the upper 40s.

FRIDAY – DEC 22 – Mostly sunny, highs in the mid 40s.

SATURDAY – DEC 23 – Partly sunny, highs in the mid 40s.

MARINE FORECAST: A small craft advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. this evening for easterly winds gusting to 25 knots, seas 4-5 feet.

OUTLOOK: A gale warning will be in effect from 6 p.m. this evening until 6 p.m. Monday evening; Advisories expected for Tuesday; advisories still possible Wednesday and Thursday for elevated seas.
