Skies are clear on this frigid Sunday morning and temperatures have fallen to their lowest levels since January 10th with readings ranging from 12 in the Clifton area to the low single digits inland, winds are still a little brisk bringing wind chill values to below zero.

A very strong Arctic high pressure system over the area will give us a sunny and very dry day and after a very cold morning temperatures this afternoon will rise to a couple of degrees higher than on Saturday and with less wind it will not feel as harsh this afternoon.

The high pressure will move offshore tonight with a return flow of milder air for Monday, temperatures will rise into the 40s.

Showers are likely Tuesday into Wednesday morning, temperatures will climb to well above normal.

Seasonable temperatures are likely Thursday through the beginning of next weekend, there will be a chance of some precipitation Friday and Saturday.

SATURDAY MARCH 4, 2017  5:55 A.M.

Skies are clear early on this Saturday morning and temperatures are quite cold with readings ranging from the upper teens in the Clifton area to around 10 further inland.

Today will be a very cold day and winds will again increase with gusts approaching 40 mph and even with bright sunshine temperatures will struggle to reach the 30 degree mark but with the winds it will feel much colder.  A very strong Arctic high pressure will be building into the area from the Great Lakes.

Overnight lows tonight will be the lowest in nearly two months as temperatures will fall to around 10 in the Clifton area to near zero further inland, winds however will be lighter.

After a very cold start tomorrow temperatures will moderate in the afternoon and with less wind it will feel more comfortable as the high pressure slowly moves off the coast.

A return flow will bring milder air into the region starting on Monday with mild conditions along with some showers mainly falling Tuesday afternoon through early morning on Wednesday.

Cooler and dry conditions are expected for the end of next week.

FRIDAY MARCH 3, 2017   5:55 A.M.

Skies are mostly clear early on this Friday morning and temperatures are colder than the last few mornings ranging from the upper 20s in the Clifton area to the low 20s further inland, these readings are actually near normal for early March, winds are lighter than yesterday but still a little brisk out of the west.

Today will start off sunny but a weak disturbance will give us a chance of snow flurries mainly falling later this afternoon till the early evening, temperatures will be seasonably cold.

The weather for the weekend will be quite cold with well below normal temperatures as an Arctic high pressure moves into the area, overnight temperatures tonight will fall into the teens and it will be windy that will make it feel much colder, temperatures during the day Saturday will generally stay below freezing.  Even colder Saturday night with low temperatures falling to near ten degrees by Sunday morning.  Temperatures will moderate Sunday afternoon.

As has been the case most of this winter the cold air will not last long as it will become much milder again Monday through Wednesday, there will be a chance of showers Monday night through Tuesday.

THURSDAY MARCH 2, 2017  6:10 A.M.

Skies are partly cloudy early on this Thursday morning and temperatures range from the upper 40s in the Clifton area to the around 40 further inland, winds are strong out of the west with some gusts over 40 MPH.

A strong cold front came through early this morning, temperatures at midnight were still in the low 60s but has fallen to the 40s by 6 A.M.  The rest of today will be partly sunny, winds will be very strong this morning but slowly diminsh this afternoon, temperatures will fall through the 40s and into the 30s by this evening.

On Friday a weak clipper low pressure disturbance will cross the area and at this time it appears that there will only be a chance of snow showers with no accumulations, temperatures will be chilly and the winds will become gusty by evening.

Very cold Saturday into Sunday morning, highs on Saturday will struggle to  reach the freezing mark and lows will fall well down into the teens Sunday morning.  Temperatures moderate by Sunday afternoon but still be slightly below normal.

Quite mild again Monday through Wednesday with a chance of rain showers mainly on Tuesday.

FEBRUARY 2017 CLIMATE SUMMARY:

This past month was the warmest February on record for my station and also Central Park, the average temperature in Clifton was 39.9 degrees which was 6.5 degrees above normal.  Precipitation was below normal with 2.27 inches falling.  Snowfall was only slightly below normal with 9.1 inches accumulating of which 8.6 inches falling on the 9th. The highest temperature was an amazing 75 degrees recorded on the 24th which was a record for the month of February and the lowest reading was 14 degrees on the 10th.

WEDNESDAY MARCH 1, 2017 6:00 A.M.

Skies are cloudy with some fog and drizzle in parts of the area early on this Wednesday morning, temperatures are very mild with readings mostly in the low-mid 50s, winds are nearly calm.

After having the warmest February on record March will start off unseasonable warm with some record high tempertures possible, also some thunderstorms are likely, one wave of showers and possible thunderstorms will move through our area later this morning followed by a dry period from about noon until 4 p.m., stronger thunderstorms are then possible later this afternoon into this evening, some of these storms could be severe as a cold front approaches the area.  The front will pass through the area later tonight.

Thursday will be colder and windy, a wind advisory has been posted for possible wind gusts up to 50 MPH, temperatures will fall through the 40s during the day.

A weak low pressure area is expected to pass through the area on Friday giving us a chance of some light snow, at this time with the warmer ground it appears that  any accumulations will be quite low.

The weekend will be quite cold but dry.

Warmer again early next week with possible showers on Tuesday.
