Area slowly gets over the “hump” from the deep freeze!


Temperatures this morning with clear skies around around 5 degrees in the Clifton area to around zero further inland.  Winds have died down so it feels less harsh than at this time yesterday.

Yesterday afternoon was the coldest afternoon in 20 years, highs were only in the single digits with wind chills around -20 degrees.

Today will be much more comfortable as temperatures reach the balmy low 20s along with much less wind, the day will be dry but there will be an increase in clouds.

Further modification of the air mass on Thursday when temperatures actually will go above freezing with mostly fair skies and continued light winds.

More clouds on Friday and we reach the 40s, there is a slight chance of very light rain or snow but most areas will stay dry.

Even warmer on the weekend as highs reach the 50s. A storm system will give us rain Saturday afternoon and night.

Above normal temperatures will continue to at least into early next week.

Thursday – Sunny, high in the mid 30s.

Friday – Mostly cloudy, high in the low 40s.

Saturday – Cloudy with rain likely in the afternoon and night, high in the mid 50s.

Monday – Mostly cloudy, high near 50.

Tuesday – Mostly cloudy, high in the upper 40s.

 

Marine Forecast: Today – West winds to 22 knots, seas 2-3 feet.

Brutally cold and windy Tuesday!


Temperature in Clifton has dropped to 2 degrees which is more than 50 degrees colder than this time yesterday.  With wind gusts to 40 mph it has wind chills as low as -20.

Temperatures will not rise much today even though skies will be sunny with readings only reaching around 10 degrees and with winds continuing to gust to 40 mph the wind chills will remain well below zero.  A wind advisory along with a wind chill advisory is in effect.

Tonight the winds will diminish and lows again will fall to just above the zero degree mark.

On Wednesday temperatures will rise into the 20s during the day and with much less wind it will feel much more comfortable even though the readings are still well below normal.. Skies will be mostly fair.

Thursday remains dry with highs closer to normal reaching the 30s.

Even milder weather Friday through the weekend with highs reaching the 50s by Saturday.  The only chance of precipitation will be Friday night into Saturday and again on Monday but most that will be falling will be in the form of light rain.

The January thaw should continue most of next week, good news after the cold beginning of this month.

Tonight – Clear with diminishing winds after midnight, low around 5.

Wednesday – Sunny, high in the low 20s.

Thursday – Partly sunny, high in the mid 30s.

Saturday – Chance of light snow in the rain early then a chance of rain in the afternoon, mild, with highs in the low 50s.

Sunday – Partly sunny, high in the low 50s.

Monday – Partly sunny with a chance of rain, high near 50.

 

Marine Forecast: Today – Gale warnings in effect for west winds to 42 knots, seas 6 feet. Freezing spray advisory also in effect.

Outlook – Conditions lower to below advisory levels Wednesday afternoon and continue through Friday, advisories may be needed on Saturday.

Arctic blast to plummet temperatures tonight!


Temperatures this morning have reached the very mild low 50s in the Clifton area, the mild temperatures on the snow pack is causing dense fog.

We will have rain showers today ending around noon as an impressive Arctic cold front moves through.  Temperatures that are in the 50s this morning will lower to the 30s by sunset with clearing skies and increasing winds.

Temperatures will  plummet tonight along with wind gusts to 45 mph and by this time tomorrow air temperatures will be an amazing 50 degrees colder than they are now.  Wind chills will be as low as -20.  Any standing water from today’s rain will freeze quickly.

Tuesday will be a sunny but extremely cold day with high temperatures only reaching around 10 degrees and with strong winds continuing the wind chills will remain around -20 all day.  Wind chill and wind advisories are in effect..

Moderating temperatures on Wednesday but still well below normal in the 20s but the winds will greatly diminish.

Temperatures reach the normal 30s on Thursday and there is a chance of light snow at night.

Light snow on Friday may change to rain before ending.

Milder on the weekend with still some shower chances on Saturday, temperatures may rise again to near 50 degrees as this roller coaster winter weather continues.

Freezing rain developing this morning changing to plain rain this afternoon!


Skies are partly cloudy early this morning and temperatures are still rather cold with readings in the mid teens in the Clifton area but readings are as low as -6 in Walpack, NJ to 40 degrees in Atlantic City.

Skies will quickly become cloudy with precipitation moving in this morning, we will have a period of freezing rain until this afternoon when most of the area will change to plain rain.  A freezing rain advisory is in effect inland…

Rain will continue tonight with temperatures rising into the 40s.

An Arctic cold front will cross the area on Monday morning with rain ending and followed by much colder air with temperatures plummeting to the single digits by Tuesday morning and with strong wind gusts the wind chill will fall well below zero.

Tuesday will be a brutally cold and windy day despite sunshine with highs only a bit above 10 degrees and wind chills again well below zero.

A moderating trend will start on Wednesday and temperatures will rise to above normal by next weekend.   There is a chance of light snow Thursday night into Friday morning and some rain showers next weekend..

Thursday – Mostly cloudy, high in the mid 30s.  Chance of light snow at night.

Moderating temperatures after a frigid start! Rain on Sunday!


Temperatures early this morning have dipped to 2 degrees above zero in Clifton ranging to -10 in many of the inland areas, in fact some inland spots in Southern New Jersey are now below zero.  Luckily  the winds have died down from yesterday.

With sunshine today temperatures will rise into the 20s and with continued low wind speeds it will feel more comfortable than yesterday.

The temperatures will stay steady overnight and may rise a couple of degrees by Sunday morning.  There is a slight chance of freezing drizzle early in the morning but the main area of precipitation should not reach our area till Sunday afternoon and at that time temperatures will rise above freezing so all the precipitation should fall as plain rain.

Rain will continue into Monday early in the afternoon ahead of a very strong Arctic that will pass through the area around mid-day, temperatures in the 40s in the morning will plummet to the 20s in the afternoon and the single digits at night.

Tuesday will be another brutally cold and windy day with highs only in the low teens and along with very strong winds the wind chills will fall to lower than -20.

Moderating temperatures on Wednesday that should continue into next weekend as our roller-coaster winter weather continues.. No big storms are on the horizon but we may have some snow showers on Thursday night.

Sunday – Chance of morning freezing drizzle and sleet changing to rain in the afternoon, high in the low 40s.

Monday – Rain into the early afternoon, morning highs in the mid 40s falling to the 20s by sunset.

Wednesday – Sunny, high in the mid-upper 20s.

Thursday – Mostly cloudy, with a chance of snow showers at night, high in the upper 30s.
