NOTE: On this date 10 years ago Hurricane Irene caused massive flooding in our area with 9.27″ of rain falling on August 27th into the 28th.

One last day of heat and humidity today as the Bermuda high pressure moves offshore and a backdoor cold front approaches from the north. Highs today will again be in the 90s and dew points in the 70s will cause heat indexes to rise to over 100; a heat advisory remains in effect. Also showers and thunderstorms are likely later this afternoon through tonight, with some of the storms accompanied by very heavy downpours; a flash flood watch has been issued.

Saturday will be cooler as the front moves to our south and an onshore flow develops. The front will not be too far to our south so there is a chance of additional showers and thunderstorms.

Sunday should be mainly dry and the front to our south should move to our north as a warm front at night.

Quite warm and humid again on Monday with showers and thunderstorms likely.

A cold front will cross the area sometime on Tuesday and it will be warm but the humidity should drop by late in the day, however there still may be some showers lateTuesday night.

Unsettled weather for the middle of next week as some moisture from Tropical Storm Ida may move into our area. Ida is expected to intensify and come ashore near the New Orleans area.

The Bermuda high pressure ridge will continue to give our area hot and humid weather today and on Friday with highs in the 90s both days and with dew points in the low 70s will make heat indexes to rise to near 100 degrees. A heat advisory is in effect. Only a low chance of showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and evening today and only a slight chance of showers on Friday.

A backdoor cold front will cross the area Friday night and Saturday will be noticeably cooler but the humidity will stay rather high along with the likelihood of showers and thunderstorms.

Somewhat milder on Sunday but with still a chance of afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms.

Unsettled weather Monday through Wednesday with showers possible each day. Monday and Tuesday will be quite warm but a little cooler on Wednesday as a cold front moves across our area.

Our heatwave will continue today through Friday as the Bermuda high pressure ridge dominates our weather. The humidity will be moderate today with dew points in the 60s but become more humid Thursday and Friday with dew points rising to the low 70s. High temperatures all three days are expected to be in the low 90s. There is a slight chance of showers (20%) Thursday and Friday. A weak cold front will cross the area Friday afternoon.

Cooler weather for the weekend as we will have an onshore flow and there will be a low chance of showers both days as a weak front will be near the area.

Somewhat warmer Monday and Tuesday with a chance of showers both days.

The remnants of Tropical Storm Henri has moved to the east as Bermuda high pressure builds into our area. Today we will have plenty of sunshine along with hot temperatures but the humidity will be moderate with dew points in the 60s.

Wednesday and Thursday will continue to be hot with an increase in humidity as dew points approach the 70 degree mark. Although there is a slight chance of a shower on Thursday most areas will remain dry.

A weak cold front will cross the area on Friday again with only a slight chance of a shower.

Cooler but still rather muggy weather for the weekend with only a low chance of showers on Sunday.

Rain is falling moderately to heavy around the area early on this Monday morning and temperatures at 5 a.m. range from 71 in Clifton down to 67 at High Point. Winds are from the south around 10 mph.

As of 5 a.m. our storm total from Henri is 6.57″, 2.33″ on Saturday, 3.44″ on Sunday and .80″ so far today.

Tropical depression Henri is now centered over the Hudson Valley and rain is still circulating around the storm. Steady rain should taper off to occasional showers and thunderstorms this afternoon with rain that still may be heavy at times. The showers will finally end tonight. An additional 1/2″ to 1 inch of rain is expected with higher amounts possible. A flood watch continues in effect.

Bermuda high pressure will then dominate our weather Tuesday through Thursday giving us more than likely the last heatwave of the summer with highs in the 90s. The humidity will be moderate on Tuesday but then increase Wednesday into Thursday. Most of this period will be dry but there will be a low chance of afternoon or evening showers on Thursday.

A cold front is expected to cross the region on Friday followed by cooler and less humid air for the upcoming weekend.
