One last day of extreme heat and humidity today as the Bermuda high pressure moves further offshore and a cold front approaches from the west. Today will be partly sunny with highs well up into the 90s again and with dew points in the 70s the heat index will be over 100 degrees, a heat advisory continues in effect through this evening. The front will likely cause some shower and thunderstorms activity later this afternoon and this evening, some storms may be accompanied by heavy downpours.

The front will move to our south overnight but a disturbance along the front will likely cause more showers and thunderstorms on Wednesday, high tempertures will only be in the upper 80s and the dew points will lower a bit to the upper 60s.

After a morning shower on Thursday we should see clearing during the day and becoming less humid.

A continued southwest flow off of the Bermuda high pressure ridge will give us another hot and humid day today. There is a 40% chance of an afternoon or evening shower and thunderstorm mainly over inland areas. Any storms may be accompanied by heavy downpours. Highs well up into the 90s and dew points in the 70s will raise heat indexes over 100 degrees and a heat advisory is in effect.

Hot and humid weather will continue Monday and Tuesday with again highs in the 90s both days along with continued humid conditions with dew points remaining in the sultry 70s. There is only a 20% chance of rain on Monday and a 40% chance on Tuesday.

Yesterday we had no rain again even through there was a 70% chance of showers, however around the Lakewood area received up to 5 inches of rain which caused flash flooding.

Today there is a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms and once again some areas will stay dry while heavy rain is possible in some slow moving storms later this afternoon and this evening. With more cloud cover high temperatures will be a couple of degrees lower than yesterday, but the humidity will stay high with dew points in the low 70s as the Bermuda high pressure ridge continues to dominate our weather.

Less clouds on Sunday will cause high temperatures to rise into the 90s again and there is still a chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening.

CLIFTON’S CLIMATE SUMMARY FOR JULY 2022

Temperatures were well above normal with an average of 79.2 degrees which made it the 3rd warmest July since 1973, hottest was in 2020. The highest temperature was 99 degrees set on the 24th, the lowest was 63 recorded on the 4th and the 27th. 11 days of 90 degree plus temperatures and 6 days of temperatures of 95 degrees or more. Precipitation was near normal with 4.30″ accumulating. Most of the rain came on two occasions, .90″ on the 8th and 2.88″ on the 18th. Some areas of New Jersey missed most of the precipitation, Newark airport only had .55″ of rain which was their driest July on record.
