Our area has mostly cloudy skies early on this Wednesday morning. Temperatures are on the mild side with readings ranging from the upper 50s in the Clifton area to around 50 further inland; there is a brisk west wind.

Today we will see clouds breaking up this morning but it will become overcast once again by noontime as a weak cold front comes through the area; sunshine should return by late this afternoon. Winds will be brisk and it will not be as mild as the last couple of days.

Tomorrow we should see some sunshine in the morning but become cloudy again in the afternoon as a storm system approaches from the Tennessee Valley, temperatures once again will be seasonably cool.

Friday will be a wet day as low pressure moves into our area, rain heavy at times throughout the day and evening with rainfall amounts averaging 1-2 inches.

The weekend will be unsettled and cool as an upper air low pressure will be in our area, there will be a chance of showers both days.

Still a chance of showers on Monday as the upper low will be only slowly moving away, temperatures will continue to be cool.

TUESDAY  MAY 2, 2017  5:55 A.M.

Skies are mostly cloudy and there are some showers around as a cold front approaches the area. Temperatures are very mild with readings in the low 70s in the Clifton area, down to the low 60s further inland where the front has moved through; winds are from the southwest around 5-10 mph.

The cold front will cross the area shortly and it will be accompanied by some showers and followed by a brisk westerly flow of much drier air, temperatures will rise a little to the mid 70s.

Dry weather with more seasonable temperatures for Wednesday into the day on Thursday.

A slow moving upper low pressure system will cause rain which will possibly heavy at times from late Thursday night through Friday night, we may pick up 1-2 inches of rain from this system.

The upper low will hang around our area for the weekend into early next week producing mostly cloudy skies, cool temperatures and scattered showers.

APRIL 2017 CLIMATE SUMMARY FOR CLIFTON:

The average temperature for the month was 56.5 degrees which was around 5 degrees above normal making this the warmest April since 2010 and the 2nd warmest since 1974.

Precipitation was just slightly above normal with 4.48 inches falling.

Highest temperature was 87 degrees on the 16th – Easter Sunday.

Lowest temperature was 35 degrees on the 1st.

No snow fell during the month.

MONDAY  MAY 1, 2017  5:51 A.M.

Our area has cloudy skies early on this Monday morning and there is some drizzle falling in parts of the area. Temperatures are cool ranging from the upper 40s in the Clifton area to the mid 40s further inland, winds are light north-northeasterly.

A warm front will be passing to our north later this morning bringing  warmer and more humid air into the region; we should see some sunshine and we will have a brisk southwest flow.

A cold front then will pass the area after midnight tonight accompanied by showers and thunderstorms, some of these storms may be severe especially inland.

Tuesday will be dry during the day with plenty of sunshine and lower humidity, temperatures will still be above normal.

Cooler weather but mainly dry Wednesday and during the day on Thursday.

A low pressure area will slowly move into our area at the end of the week with rain Thursday night into Friday and a chance of showers lingering into the weekend.  Temperatures during this period will slightly below normal.

Skies are partly cloudy early on this Sunday morning and temperatures range from the upper 50s in the Clifton area to the low 50s further inland.; there is a light northerly wind.

A cold front has moved to our south and today we will have much cooler temperatures than the last couple of days. Readings will not rise much if at all from the early morning temperatures; we will remain dry, but there will be an increase of clouds this afternoon.

A warm front will cross the area on Monday bringing back warmer temperatures.  A cold front will cross the area at night accompanied by some shower and thunderstorm activity.

Clearing during the day on Tuesday with seasonably mild temperatures.  Another nice day on Wednesday but it will be slightly cooler.

Rain chances increase from Thursday into at least Saturday with cooler than normal temperatures.

TONIGHT – Cloudy with patchy dense fog possible, low around 50.

SATURDAY  APRIL 29, 2017  5:53 A.M.

We have mostly cloudy skies early on this Saturday morning. There were some shower and thunderstorm activity with most of the storms now just to our south over Central New Jersey. Temperatures are very mild with readings ranging from the mid 60s in the Clifton area to the mid 50s further inland, winds are mainly calm.

Showers will move offshore this morning and we should have partly sunny and warm conditions throughout the day; a backdoor cold front will cross the area late tonight with only a slight chance of a shower possible.

Much cooler but dry on Sunday as we will have an onshore flow; daytime highs will be nearly 20 degrees lower than today.

A warm front will move back north of the area on Monday with warmer air moving back into the area.  Another cold front will likely cause shower and possibly some thunderstorms Monday night into Tuesday morning, followed by clearing and breezy conditions by Tuesday afternoon.

After a nice Wednesday a stronger low pressure system will likely give us periods of rain with cool conditions Thursday into next weekend.
