Pleasant springlike day after morning fog; More rain on Saturday!


We have cloudy skies early this morning and there is some dense fog around in some places, temperatures are mild ranging from 40 degrees in Clifton to the mid 30s further inland, winds are light.

After early morning clouds and rain we should have sunshine and mild temperatures reaching 60 degrees in some areas.

Dry on Thursday and during the day on Friday with slightly cooler air.

Precipitation moves back in late Friday and will extend into Saturday, looks like only a rain event with some mixed snow and rain well inland Friday night before changing to rain on Saturday.

Some lingering showers possible with near normal temperatures on Sunday.

Dry and seasonably mild weather is expected on Monday and on St. Patrick’s Day.

Continued mild with rain developing this afternoon; Clearing and quite mild on Wednesday!


Skies are partly cloudy at 6 a.m. this morning, temperatures range from 32 degrees in Clifton to many 20s in the outlying suburbs, winds are light.  Again be careful walking and driving on untreated areas as snow melt from yesterday’s mild temperatures have caused some black ice.

Today we will have increasing cloudiness with rain developing this afternoon and continuing till around daybreak on Wednesday, temperatures will continue to be mild so the  precipitation that falls will be in the form of rain, some dense fog may develop tonight.  Rainfall amounts will be around 1/4 of an inch.

Clearing on Wednesday and it will be quite mild with highs approaching the 60 degree mark.

Dry and somewhat cooler on Thursday.

A stronger storm system will be approaching the area on Friday with precipitation beginning by evening, it may be cold enough at night to cause some mixed snow, sleet or freezing rain.

Precipitation changes to all rain on Saturday and may fall heavy at times during the day into the evening with about an inch of rainfall possible, with additional snow melt along with the rain may cause some flooding.

Sunday should be partly sunny with near normal temperatures.

Dry with seasonably mild temperatures early next week.

Clearing and mild today after early morning sprinkles!


Skies are cloudy at 6 a.m. this morning and there has been some sprinkles in the area as a weak disturbance moves through the area.  Temperatures are in the mid 30s but some of the sprinkles may be heavy enough may cause some freezing on the colder untreated surfaces so use caution going out early this morning.

After the disturbance moves through skies will clear and it will be another mild day with highs approaching the 50 degree mark once again.

On Tuesday a low pressure system will be moving up from the Gulf and off the Carolina coast, precipitation will be close enough to give us a chance of rain Tuesday afternoon and evening,  rain amounts should be less than 1/4 of an inch.

Some clearing on Wednesday and it may be the mildest day of the year so far with temperatures well up into the 50s and with enough sunshine 60 degrees is not out of reach.

Thursday will be a sunny day with slightly cooler temperatures.

Cooler on Friday and as another stronger low pressure moves close to our area we may have some snow at night that will change to rain on Saturday.

Clearing and seasonably cool weather on Sunday.

Milder weather as we spring ahead!


We have cloudy skies at daybreak this morning and temperatures are about 20 degrees higher than this time yesterday ranging from 34 degrees in Clifton to the 20s in the colder areas, winds are light.  Daylight Saving Time began early this morning so hopefully everyone sprung ahead.

Today we will have a mix of clouds and sunshine and temperatures will finally reach near normal for this time of year reaching the mid 40s,  it will become a bit breezy with west winds gusting to 25 mph at times.

Monday will be mostly cloudy early then becoming mostly sunny and seasonable mild.

There is a chance of some light rain Tuesday afternoon and evening as a low pressure system moves off shore to our south.

Clearing on Wednesday and temperatures should be mild reaching the low 50s.

Dry and somewhat cooler Thursday and Friday.

Precipitation is likely late Friday night into Saturday which may start off as snow and then change to rain.

Milder and dry weather for the next several days!


Another very cold morning as temperatures have dropped to 12 degrees in Clifton to some below zero readings in our colder suburbs, winds are light and skies are clear.

Today we will have a sunny start but we should see an increase of clouds as a weak system passes to our north, there is a very slight chance of a snow flurry or two this afternoon but mostly just to our north and west.  Tonight will be mostly cloudy and much milder than the last few mornings.

Sunshine returns on Sunday and temperatures move closer to normal with highs in the mid 40s.

A mainly dry week is in store for us with temperatures in the 40s on Monday and Tuesday and near 50 on Wednesday there is a system that will move offshore just to our south on Tuesday night but the precipitation is expected to stay south of the area.  A little cooler but continued dry Thursday and Friday.

The next chance of significant precipitation is next weekend as low pressure moves into the area giving us a chance of rain or snow.

Sunny but very cold today; Dry weekend with moderating temperatures!


Skies are clear at 6 a.m. this morning and temperatures are very cold with 9 degrees here in Clifton which ties the record low for the date since my records began.  Yesterday I picked up 5 inches of snow which hopefully is the last significant snowfall for this season.

Today will be sunny but even with the stronger March sun angle temperatures will not rise out of the 20s.

After another chilly morning on Saturday temperatures should moderate on Saturday reaching above the freezing mark along with plenty of sunshine.

Milder and dry on Sunday as temperatures become closer to normal for this time of year.

The upcoming week looks mainly dry with high temperatures mostly in the 40s.

Snow today, accumulations 3-5 inches, becoming much colder!


At 6 a.m. in Clifton we have light snow falling and the temperature is 32 degrees, winds are light and so far just a coating of snow has accumulated.

Today we will see snow continuing till later this afternoon, expect 3-5 inches of snow in the Clifton area with somewhat higher amounts to our south and less across Northwest New Jersey and the Hudson Valley, temperatures will fall from the low 30s this morning to the low 20s by sunset, winds will be from the north.

Very cold tonight with low dipping down to around 10 degrees in Clifton to the single digits inland, skies will be clear.

Continued quite cold on Friday despite plenty of sunshine.

A moderating trend will start over the weekend and continue into next week as we finally come out of the frigid winter weather of the last several weeks.  Temperatures will reach the 30s on Saturday and rise to near 50 by the middle of next week, we should also have an extended period of dry weather with no storms.

Light rain today changing to snow late tonight!


We have light rain falling at 6 a.m. this morning and temperatures are just above freezing with a reading of 34 in Clifton while inland areas are near or just below the freezing mark.  The ground is still cold so walking or driving on untreated areas may be slippery so use caution going out this morning, so march fourth slowly.

Today we will have occasional light rain, temperatures will rise somewhat to near 40 degrees.

Tonight colder air will be moving into the area while waves of low pressure move along a front just to our south, the rain should mix with sleet and snow late tonight and change to all snow after midnight ending Thursday afternoon, accumulations should range from 4-6 inches with more to our south and east.

Clearing Thursday night and it will be breezy and much colder with some record lows possible by Friday morning.

Friday will be sunny but quite cold.

Slowly moderating temperatures over the weekend into early next week and we should stay mainly dry.

Finally some constantly springlike weather should be enjoyed by the end of next week.

Snow developing this afternoon changing to rain late tonight, significant snow Wednesday night into Thursday morning!


Skies are partly cloudy early this morning and temperatures range for the upper teens in Clifton to some single digits further inland, winds are nearly calm.

It will become cloudy by later this morning with snow developing around 4 p.m. this afternoon, the snow will mix with sleet and freezing rain tonight before changing to all rain on Wednesday, expect about 2 inches of snow and sleet accumulation.

Wednesday will be mild with highs in the 40s but a strong cold front will be moving through Wednesday evening with rain changing to snow at night and continuing into Thursday morning, at this time it appears that we will receive around 6-8 inches of snowfall before the snow ends around noon on Thursday.

Very cold once again Thursday night into Friday with dry conditions.

The weekend will be dry with moderating temperatures.

Unsettled winter weather to continue most of this week!


At 6 a.m. this morning skies are mostly cloudy and temperatures are in the upper 20s in the Clifton area to the low 20s further inland winds are nearly calm.   We received around 3 inches of snow from yesterday’s storm.

Today clouds will give way to mostly sunny skies by this afternoon, temperatures will rise to the upper 30s with breezy conditions.

Tomorrow will start off clear and cold but another storm system will be moving into the area and we should see overcast skies by noon and snow likely to develop mainly after 3 p.m.   The snow should mix with sleet and freezing rain overnight and become all rain by daybreak on Wednesday, we could pick up another couple of inches of snow and ice before the changeover to plain rain.

Wednesday will be milder with a continued chance of rain.

Colder air will be filtering into the area Wednesday night with rain changing back to snow for Thursday as a frontal system will be just off shore, depending on the location of the front will determine how much snow might accumulate but at this time there is a chance of significant snow Thursday morning.

Clearing and very cold on Friday.

Temperatures moderate closer to normal over the weekend with dry conditions expected.

CLIMATE – February 2015 was the coldest February since I started records in 1973, the average temperature was only 21.1 degrees.   Precipitation was below normal with 1.74″ falling but most of this was in the form of snow with 17 inches recorded which was only a little above the February average.
