Skies are partly cloudy early on this Easter Sunday and temperatures at 5 a.m. range from 40 in Clifton down to 30 at High Point. Winds are from the northwest around 5-10 mph.

High pressure building into our area will give us a chilly day today with highs around 50 and with some gusty winds it will feel even cooler.

With clear skies early Monday morning temperatures will fall to near the freezing mark and there is a freeze watch in effect as the growing season has begun.

A rather strong low pressure system will give our area some moderate to heavy rain, mainly from Monday night into Tuesday morning. Rainfall amounts of 1- 1 1/2 inches can be expected. Some of the precipitation may be mixed with snow over the higher elevations well to our north and west.

Clearing by Tuesday afternoon but it will remain chilly with highs only in the 50s.

A stretch of dry weather is likely Wednesday through at least the start of next weekend with moderating temperatures.

THURSDAY – APR 21 – Partly sunny, high in the mid 60s.

FRIDAY – APR 22 – Mostly sunny, high in the upper 60s.

SATURDAY – APR 23 – Mostly sunny, high in the low 60s.

MARINE FORECAST: A small craft advisory is in effect until 8 p.m. this evening for northwest winds gusting to 30 knots, seas 4-7 feet.

OUTLOOK: A gale watch has been posted effective between 6 p.m. Monday night through 6 a.m. Tuesday morning; no advisories expected Wednesday and Thursday.
