Good morning everybody and Happy New Year!  Skies are partly cloudy on this New Year’s morning and temperatures are quite mild ranging from the low 40s in the Clifton area to the mid 30s further inland, winds are light.

Today we will have good weather for the first day of 2017, a weak cold front will swing through the area this morning but will come through dry, temperatures will reach well up into the 40s with 50 degrees possible in some areas.

A frontal system will cause precipitation mainly in the form of rain but may start off as a mixture of sleet and freezing rain mainly inland Monday morning.  Periods of rain will continue through Tuesday night, temperature will be above normal on Monday and well above normal on Tuesday.

A strong cold front will swing through the area Wednesday morning followed by much colder air by Wednesday night.

Cold weather is likely Wednesday night through next weekend, most of this time period should be dry but we are still watching for a possible storm early in the weekend but at this point the storm will stay offshore, however if the storm comes closer to the coast we would then get some snow.

MONDAY – Cloudy with a chance of rain possibly beginning as a mixture of sleet and freezing rain in the morning, highs in the low 40s.

OUTLOOK –  Mainly sub-advisory level conditions this afternoon through Tuesday with advisories likely Wednesday and Thursday.

Skies are partly cloudy early on this New Year’s Eve morning and temperatures range from around 30 in the Clifton area to the low 20s further inland, winds are light.  There may be some black ice on untreated roads and sidewalks leftover from yesterday’s snow showers.

A weak warm front will cross the area today and a southwest flow of milder air will be with us, skies will be partly sunny and highs reaching the 40s.   Tonight will be mostly cloudy and temperatures at midnight will not be that harsh at all with readings at midnight in the mid 30s.

New Year’s Day’s weather will be mild and dry with light winds.

A low pressure system will cause precipitation Monday and Tuesday mostly falling as rain but may begin as a period of freezing rain and sleet Monday morning, temperatures will be slightly above normal on Monday but well above normal on Tuesday.

A cold front will cross the area Wednesday morning followed by much colder air by late in the day.

Cold and dry weather is expected for Thursday and Friday.

The possible storm for next weekend still looks like it will be too far offshore to give us any problems but still bears watching.

We have partly cloudy skies early on this Friday morning and early morning temperatures are a bit above normal ranging from the mid 30s in the Clifton area to the upper 20s further inland, winds are from the west averaging around  10 mph.   Some areas do have some black ice due to yesterday’s rain so be careful heading out early this morning.

A strong low pressure system that gave us the rain here yesterday and the heavy snow in parts of inland New England has moved into Quebec, a strong westerly flow of seasonably cold air will be with us, some gusts may reach 35 mph, also there is a chance of some snow squalls especially further inland where a quick coating may occur.

High pressure will be in control of our weather tomorrow and on New Year’s Day and now looks like it will remain dry throughout this period, temperatures will be near normal on Saturday and above normal on New Year’s Day.

A complex low pressure system is expected to give our area rain Monday into Tuesday that may begin as snow Monday morning, tempertures will be on the mild side.

Still mild on Wednesday with a possible lingering shower followed by dry and colder weather for the end of next week.

The storm that I mentioned yesterday for next weekend may be too far out to sea to give us any significant snow but this system still bears watching.

Skies have become overcast early on this Thursday morning and temperatures range from the upper 20s in the Clifton area to the low 20s further inland, winds are light.

A low pressure system moving into the area today will cause snow to develop around 7-9 a.m. and mix with and then change to rain as warmer air moves in, accumulations of about 1/2 inch is possible in the Clifton area to up to 3 inches in our northern and western suburbs before the change over.  The storm will rapidly intensify near Long Island and move up to New England coast tonight and give some inland areas of New England 1-2 feet of snow.  Here the rain should end by late this afternoon and it will become windy.

Friday will be a seasonably cold day and windy with a chance of some snow showers which may accumulate well inland.

New Year’s Eve should be mainly dry with continued seasonably cold temperatures with much lighter winds, however a weak disturbance may touch off a snow or rain shower after midnight.

New Year’s Day should be a pleasant day with milder temperatures.

A complex low pressure system is expected to give us precipitation Monday and Tuesday with most of it falling as rain but some may start as snow Monday morning, Tuesday will be quite mild with highs in the 50s.

Looking further ahead it now looks like colder weather will with us toward the end of next week and a possible coastal low may give us some significant snow next weekend.

Skies are partly cloudy early on this Wednesday morning and temperatures range from the mid 30s in the Clifton area to the upper 20s further inland, winds are light.

High pressure will control our weather today giving us a partly sunny day and although cooler than yesterday temperatures will still be slightly above normal.

A frontal system approaching from the west will give us precipitation on Thursday starting out as snow but quickly changing to rain closer to the coast with little or no accumulation expected while inland areas may pick up a couple inches of snow before the changeover.  A secondary low is expected to form off our coast late in the day and rapidly intensify giving inland parts of New England heavy snow.

The storm system will move into the Canadian maritimes on Friday producing windy and colder conditions along with a chance of snow showers..

High pressure will be in our area on Saturday giving a dry day with seasonably cold temperatures.

A weak cold front will give us a chance of rain or snow showers between midnight and daybreak on New Year’s Day, temperatures should moderate and it should be a rather nice holiday.

A complex weather system will give us chances of precipitation Monday and Tuesday, temperatures will be above normal with most precipitation should be in the form of rain.

SATURDAY – Mostly sunny, high near  40.  Chance of rain or snow showers at night.
